LAPD: Pop Smoke’s Social Media led Killers to his Home

The hip hop community is mourning yet another death on an upcoming rapper Pop Smoke, real name Bashar Barakah Jackson. News broke that he was shot and killed in a deadly home robbery. Mr. Jackson had been staying in the mansion in Hollywood Hills at the time. It is believed that he was gunned down after a group of armed men in black masks broke into his house. Some items were taken during the crime but according to the investigators, some standard sings of robbery were absent. Quick responses were done but he was pronounced dead upon arrival to the nearby hospital. His death shook many fans and upcoming artists like him. He was just 20 years old and the star had just begun to rise after his hit single ‘’ Welcome to the party” which had even sparked the interest of rap superstar 50 Cent, Nicki Minaj and others.

The Los Angeles police department has been investigating into his death, and six days after his posthumous album dropped, some arrests have been made. According to CNN several people were detained and released in February. Witnesses also recorded statements and stated that between two and six people broke into Pop Smoke’s home.

According to a report by Los Angeles Times on February 19, the Los Angeles police responded after receiving a call from the East Coast when someone reported that several people had broken into his friend’s home shortly before 5:00 a.m. Upon arrival the police found the 20-year-old rapper with gunshot wounds. Tippet wrote a report that was published by the Washington Post and it stated that it is believed that neither Pop Smoke nor his group of friends are involved with the street gang.

A group of five people including two minors have been arrested in connection to the popstar killing in February. Corey Walker, 19; Keandre D. Rodgers, 18; and Jaquan Murphy, 21 have been named according to The New York Times. Walker and Rodgers were charged with murder along with the two young people who were not identified. Police records revealed that Murphy was charged with three adult killing and bail for one million dollars.
