On Friday, December 4, 2020, former U.S. President Barack Obama was a guest on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. For those who missed it, this entertaining appearance can be viewed on the Mashable website.

Because he is respected for his leadership, President Obama was asked by Mr. Fallon to settle some of the biggest debates of all time. The former president said that settling these debates was serious, and he was prepared for the “Obama Settles It” segment.

When asked if New York-style or Chicago deep dish-style was the preferred type of pizza, Mr. Obama said that although he loves his hometown of Chicago and its deep dish pies, the efficiency element offered by NY-style pizza puts it over the top.

Obama went on to say that Chicago deep dish-style pizza has to be eaten like lasagna, while sitting down, and can’t really be eaten while walking. New York-style pizza on the other hand, he said, is more practical because it can be folded and eaten while walking.

As a follow-up pizza question, Jimmy Fallon asked Mr. Obama if pineapple should be an ingredient on pizza pies. Without hesitation, he said “No.” Mentioning that he is from Hawaii, Obama said he knows that you can’t put pineapple on a pizza, because it’s just wrong.

Former President Obama was asked if “Die Hard” is a Christmas movie, to which he replied “No.” He then explained that “Charlie Brown Christmas” and “It’s a Wonderful Life” are Christmas movies, while “Die Hard” is an action flick that happens to tangentially involve Christmas.

At that point, Mr. Fallon interjected that this was the best interview he’s ever done. He then asked the former president if it was okay to put ketchup on eggs, to which Mr. Obama said “No, it’s wrong.

The next question for the former commander-in chief was if the toilet paper roll should hang over or under. Obama’s immediate answer was that rolls should hang over, because pieces can come-off easier and neater.

Upon being asked if a hot dog is a sandwich, Mr. Obama said “No,” that a hot dog is a hot dog, and a sandwich is a sandwich.

He was then asked if he made a sandwich, would he cut it diagonally or horizontally. Obama said that while admires people who actually do cut their sandwiches, he never really does so. If he had to cut a sandwich, however, he would probably do it diagonally. He explained that with the diagonal cut, the pointy edge of the sandwich can be put into the mouth a little bit more efficiently.

Finally, Jimmy Fallon asked former President Obama if the glass is half-empty or half-full. Right away, Mr. Obama replied that it is always half-full. This fun segment ended with Mr. Fallon promoting the former president’s new book, titled “A Promised Land.”
