Trump Gets Banned from Twitter PermanentlyJanuary 19, 2021
Twitter has said that it has banned President Donald Trump on its social media platform for good. The company said that Trump had deliberately violated its user policies in some of his recent tweets.
“After closely reviewing tweets posted by Donald Trump recently, we have decided to permanently suspend his account because of the risk of inciting more violence,” Twitter said.
“Following the recent events in the country, we clearly warned the President that any continued violation of our rules will result in stun action against him”
The decision by Twitter comes after Donald Trump posted twice on Friday – tweets that would turn out to be his last. The tweets went against the company’s rules that prohibit glorification of violence on its platform.
Twitter said that the two tweets from Trump should be viewed in the context of the recent happenings in the country and the kind of influence the President has on the public. Many people look up to the president and anything he says can have grave consequences.
The first tweet talked about Trump supporters. It appeared to praise those who attacked Capitol Hill for what the president termed has “fighting for their stolen votes”. The tweet went ahead to allege that the 75,000,000 people who voted for him won’t be silenced or disrespected.
The second tweet insinuated that Donald Trump was not going to attend Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20th. “For all those who are still wondering and asking, I won’t be attending the inauguration,” said the tweet.
According to Twitter, the tweet about inauguration will be interpreted as a way of delegitimizing Joe Biden’s win. It also added that the tweet would be viewed as a way of inciting people to attack those attending the ceremony since Trump himself would not be present.
The other statement from Trump concerning American patriots suggested that the president was willing to continue supporting anyone who believes in his values and alleged stolen victory.
The ban by Twitter doesn’t address Donald Trump directly rather the “the @realDonalTrump account.
Twitter said that it will implement its policies on ban evasions to make sure that Trump doesn’t manipulate the system to come back using a different identity.
“We have noticed that there is a different account being used to avoid a ban, we are also in the process of banning it,” said Twitter in a statement.
The company said that it wasn’t going to ban official government accounts such as @WhiteHouse and @POTU but insisted that they were going to restrict their usage.
Twitter’s policy also prohibits Donald Trump from using someone else to operate his Twitter account.
It appears that the president or someone acting under his instructions published four tweets on Friday to test the company’s evasion policies.
“For a long time, I have talked about how Twitter is continuously suppressing free speech. Today they have connived with the Democrats and to remove me from the platform” said the president.
The tweet only lasted for a few seconds. Twitter also said that it had permanently banned Trump’s campaign account.
