Because of her success as a Chief Operating Officer at Facebook and author of Lean In Women, Work, and The Will to Lead, Sheryl Sandberg has been named the most powerful woman globally by Forbes magazine. Sheryl Sandberg is also an advocate for women’s rights and gender equality. We will explore 5 rules to help successful women do their best work and lead fulfilling lives.

1) Get rid of your limiting thoughts.

The first step to achieving more is believing you can do it in the first place! If you are afraid, anxious, or nervous about something – write down all those negative thoughts that get in the way of taking action. Think back to a time when you did not give up on an idea because someone else said, “it couldn’t be done.”

2) Have a growth mindset.

A “growth” or “fixed” mindset is based on the belief that intelligence and talents are either inborn, fixed traits – meaning you have what you have and cannot do much to change it – OR they can be improved upon through hard work. If you believe that your abilities aren’t set in stone and that you can continue growing and developing, you adopt a “growth” mindset. If, on the other hand, you believe your talents and abilities are set in stone – meaning they cannot be improved upon or developed through experience – then you have a “fixed” mindset.

3) Seek out role models.

Find someone who has achieved goals you are interested in attaining – maybe a family member, friend, or colleague at work – and study them! Observe how they act and what makes them successful. Look for patterns that can be useful to your life situation. Don’t just look up to this person without asking questions – that’s not a real partnership.

4) Make a plan.

There are so many opportunities out there to help you achieve your goals – why not take advantage of them? For example, try negotiating for salary and benefits at work if appropriate in your situation or learn how to say no when something doesn’t feel right. Keeping track of these things will provide you with the evidence you need to see yourself becoming more successful.

5) Understand the power of networking.

When you meet someone new, try to engage them in a conversation to feel comfortable talking with you and eventually sharing their own experiences or advice. When people feel good about themselves, they are more likely to recommend others as well! In addition, think positively – avoid saying negative things about your work situation because it can hurt other people’s opinions of you.
