A quick view of facebook live video broadcasting feature:

Facebook’s live broadcasting platform launched last year in August 2015. Though it encourages all Facebook users to send live video to their friends and followers, it appears to have only been taken up by brands.

A quick view of Instagram live video broadcasting feature:

Instagram just launched live video Stories to compete with Snapchat. Instagram announced live streaming in its ephemeral Instagram Stories feature. These live broadcasts will be slightly different, though. They only occur in Stories and disappear as soon as they have finished broadcasting.

This might have a higher take up than Facebook, due to the more personal nature of Stories compared to a Facebook account.

Last words:

Twitter, with 317 million monthly active users, has struggled to boost their user growth. Making live video creation tools more accessible through Twitter’ app could draw new users and boost engagement.

For now, Twitter will continue to develop the Periscope app. However, it’s unclear for how long it will make sense for the Twitter company to maintain a standalone live video app in light of the integration.

The integration allows broadcasters to leverage Twitter’s audience,” Periscope’s head of engineering Sara Haider said in an interview.

Haider said she expects the update to prompt Twitter users to broadcast live more often and for longer periods of time. And while Twitter is still testing different ways to feature live videos, the company said users can expect to see more live video highlighted across the app. For now, users can receive live video notifications for specific Twitter handles by following that user on Twitter.

The move should help Twitter compete with Facebook, which has been heavily promoting its live video tools ever since they rolled out to all users early this year.
