A step by step guide to using a Whatsapp video calling feature
Facebook-owned popular instant messaging app WhatsApp finally revealed new calling feature for its over 1 billion users worldwide on iOS, Android, and Windows 10 Phone . It is one of the fastest growing social networking apps. The App got a voice calling feature last year and this year, the new addition is WhatsApp video calling. It’s technically an instant messenger, though, but new features make it ever more exciting.
WHAT IS THE ACTUAL UPDATE?
Whatsapp wrote in its Official blog post–
“Today we’re excited to announce the next step in our efforts to connect people – WhatsApp video calling. In the coming days, WhatsApp’s more than one billion users can make video calls across Android, iPhone, and Windows Phone devices.
We’re introducing this feature because we know that sometimes voice and text just aren’t enough. There’s no substitute for watching your grandchild take her first steps, or seeing your daughter’s face while she’s studying abroad. And we want to make these features available to everyone, not just those who can afford the most expensive new phones or live in countries with the best cellular networks.”
WhatsApp says video calling will use learning from voice calls to make it fast and reliable. Also, video calls are end-to-end encrypted just like chats and other media on the platform.

WhatsApp has following beneficial features that every user should consider as:
WhatsApp allows you to do more work during a video call. Once the call connects, You can keep switching between the two cameras during the call.
Users can also minimize the call window to open other chats, send messages etc with the same person, and the video call won’t get disconnected.
The location of the smaller window can be moved to anywhere on the screen.

The company is doing more work to ensure video calls are fast and reliable at all times.
WhatsApp app does’nt allow you to adjust data usage of video calling directly . In iOS and Android, all call data is presented under one tab in the Data Usage section. In most cases, people used 3G network for a 2-minute session of video calling . And the total data used in this video call was around 2.3 MB.
BE ALERT : NO VIDEO-CALLING FOR GROUPS
WhatsApp video calling feature has not yet been rolled out for groups. However, there are multiple malicious links inviting people to download the same. The malicious link reads, “You’re invited to try WhatsApp Video Calling feature. Only people with the invitation can enable this feature.” Clicking on the link will ask you to invite more friends for video calling to activate on your device. Once again don’t click on these links.
