Tragedy Strikes Strikes Lisa Marie Presley AgainJuly 31, 2020
On August 16, 1977, the “King of Rock N Roll” Elvis Presley succumb to a drug overdose at the age of 42. The loss was felt by tens of millions of fans all over the world, fans that loved the man as well as his music. For one little girl, Elvis’s death was the ultimate loss.
Elvis’s only daughter Lisa Marie Presley was born on February 1, 1968. Her mother, Priscilla Presley was the love of Elvis’s life, a woman admired for her intelligence and beauty.
It would be an understatement to say that Lisa Marie has had her share of ups and downs while trying to live in the spotlight. The ups and downs included high profile marriages to superstar musician Michael Jackson (m. 1994; div. 1996) and actor Nicolas Cage (m. 2002; div. 2004). It’s notable that Lisa Marie was devastated by Jackson’s untimely death due to a drug overdose of his own. He passed away on June 25, 2009 (aged 50).
This past weekend, Lisa Marie was again met with devastating news with reports that her second eldest son, Benjamin Keough (27), had died of an apparent suicide. Law enforcement reported that the young musician had died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in Calabasas, California.
Benjamin was the second child born from Lisa Marie’s marriage to musician Danny Keough (m. 1988; div. 1994). Of course, the young man was the grandson of Elvis and Priscilla Presley. He is also survived by his older sister Riley Keough (31) and his half-siblings Finley Aaron Love Lockwood and Harper Vivienne Ann Lockwood.
In an interview with TMZ, Lisa’s manager, Roger Widynowski stated: “She is completely heartbroken, inconsolable and beyond devastated but trying to stay strong for her 11-year-old twins and her oldest daughter Riley. She adored that boy. He was the love of her life.”
Unlike his famous parents and grandparents, Benjamin did his best to stay out of the spotlight. Over the years, he dabbled in the movie business a little bit, and as a teenager was reported to have signed a record deal back in 2009 with Universal Music for $5 million, though there is no evidence a record was ever made or released. It is noteworthy that he did find solace in music.
Lisa Marie often remarked at Benjamin’s incredible likeness in appearance to her famous father. She once told reporters, “Ben does look so much like Elvis. He was at the Opry and was the quiet storm behind the stage.” She later added, “Everybody turned around and looked when he was over there. Everybody was grabbing him for a photo because it is just uncanny.” She even wrote a song about Ben called “Storm and Grace.” BTW: Bejanin’s middle name is Storm.
Benjamin’s sister Riley has done a bit of acting throughout the years. Among her film credits are “The Lodge,” “Under the Silver Lake,” “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “American Honey.”
As for Lisa Marie herself, she has remained largely out of the spotlight in recent years. She is currently separated from her fourth husband guitarist and producer Michael Dean Lockwood, whom she married in 2006.
Aside from being Elvis’s wife and often times inspiration, Priscella spent much of the 1980s and 1990s pursuing an acting career. Among her list of credits are movies like “The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988), “The Naked Gun 2 1⁄2: The Smell of Fear (1991), and “Naked Gun 33 1⁄3: The Final Insult (1994).” Her latest movie project Wedding at Graceland.
