Britney Spears’s Bid For Freedom Goes Back To Court On Wednesday

Wednesday is a huge day for pop princess Britney Spears whose conservatorship hearing in Los Angeles will include her request to hire her own attorney, CNN reported.

Disputes, Death Threats, Resignations

Spears, 39, has pleaded to the judge to release her from a 13-year court-sanctioned conservatorship. The singer told the court three weeks ago that the legal arrangement was abusive, stupid and embarrassing.

It’s been a rocky road for Spears whose court-appointed lawyer Samuel Ingham resigned last week. He has not been replaced, but Britney will plead to Judge Brenda Penny to give her the authority to choose her own lawyer.

Meantime, there have been alleged death threats made against Spears’s family and others embroiled in the conservatorship as public support for the star skyrockets around the world.

The ACLU In A Statement Of Support

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) released a statement saying that Britney Spears should have someone in her corner who she trusts to advocate for in getting out of her conservatorship. She should be able to hire her own attorney, the organization said.

The ACLU also took aim at Spears’s father, Jamie, accusing him of neglecting to help his daughter and instead, inciting more anguish with finger-pointing and attacks of the media.

Attorney Rosengart To Enter The Picture

Spears does not have to physically show up in court on Wednesday and will reportedly appear virtually in the courtroom.

Ingham has been Spears’s court-appointed attorney for 13 years, but he submitted his resignation on July 6 after the singer partially put the blame on him for her unhappiness.

Sources close to the pop star say that Mathew Rosengart, a former federal prosecutor and prominent attorney, would like to represent her in her conservatorship. He has previously worked with celebrities such as Sean Penn, Steven Spielberg and Winona Ryder.

Her mother, Lynne Spears, filed her own court petition requesting that her daughter be allowed to independently hire a new attorney.

A $50 Million Fortune At Stake

Britney Spears is a very wealthy woman with an estimated worth of $50 million.

Her father as a co-conservator has been trying to put the brakes on handing out any more cash.

Most recently, the pop princess’s temporary co-conservator Jodi Montgomery asked for big money in 24/7 security amidst death threats.
